This came through the Hawkins email list as a record found today from the Hawkins Archives Project.
'28 Sept 1847 Lewis Minor came into court and makes oath that he cannot safely come to trial without the presence of John Netherland Esq. his council, who is absent. Therefore pray a continuance not for delay, but for justice. Lewis Minor'
Below is written by John Netherlands daughter:
'By the Constitution of 1834 all persons of color were deprived of the franchise in Tennessee,"
